Supportive Therapies

Before we get into the broader variety of therapies and treatments available, let us focus on the fundamentals that must be in place.

Prayer / Faith and Spirituality

Faith and spirituality come first, as it sets the foundation for everything else! Our mental attitude to life, and belief in a higher purpose, beyond our own circumstance, is critical to our healing journey and daily experience. It is important to have agency, peace and a purpose in life! In states of perceived victimisation, depression and anxiety set in and passion and drive get lost.
While having gratitude, seeing the beauty in the midst of struggle and finding a peace that all works out as it should – and having a belief that healing is yours – means you continue to truly live life. In scientific terms the placebo effect determines up to 74% of the outcome, while it is also well established in social sciences that people with a strong faith are generally much happier and more resilient when things become difficult.
Using different language: karma and power of manifestation can easily be included here! For further reading, I highly recommend my book Divine Healing.

Stress Management

Stress Management is a key factor that must be comprehensively addressed in your healing journey. In a stressful state of mind our decision making is impaired, our cortisol levels rise causing further inflammation, our immune system is impaired, our digestion and bowel movements are impaired and furthermore when stressed we tend to look at things more negatively – attracting and manifesting further negativity. Negative energy makes us weaker too and when negative we are more likely to suffer from nocebo effects also.
We can reduce our stress by letting go of things we do not control and positively engage with that which we do. Going for beach walks, sitting in the sun, having a massage, enjoying some social time out, taking the scenic routes, meditation … and many more tactics are available to reduce your stress and replace it with peace and joy.

Exercise / Immune Support

Regular mild exercise when battling cancer is important for a number of reasons. It helps move lymphatic system and so helps detox and strengthen the immune system, it helps oxygenate the blood and body, it helps mood and helps maintain basic fitness and also helps prevent clotting/DVT. We highly recommend regular use of a rebounder (small trampoline) and eliptical machine, but also walk the dog, take the stairs and do some basic strength exercises: squats, swimming, pilates, yoga.
Strength training (mild) is especially important for cancer patients as muscle mass retains or enhances metabolic flexibility. Cachexia (muscle wastage) is a real problem with cancer and a dangerous scenario that must be addressed with basic exercise, specialist supplementation and the right diet to complement targeted cancer treatments.

Fasting, Diet and Nutrition / Terrain Management

The whole focus is on lowering the blood glucose levels (and other key fuels for cancer) in a healthy sustainable way, while maximising the intake of quality nutrition to support the immune system.
It is well known that almost all cancers require a lot of glucose, this is certainly true for KRAS driven cancers like colorectal/bowel or pancreatic cancer. The reason cancer shows up in a PET CT scan is because cancer cells consume a lot of glucose to produce the energy they need. It then makes sense that we should focus on ways in which we can reduce the fuel cancer cells require, while still supporting the healthy cells. This is easier said than done, but there are ways in which we can give our healthy cells a leg-up while putting some stress on the tumour environment.
We do this by utilising the metabolic flexibility of healthy cells in a ketogenic diet. Contrary to popular but inappropriate advice – red meat is one of the healthiest (nutrient and energy dense) foods available and a critical part of a human species appropriate diet. Eggs (although not daily for prostate cancers), Beef (incl liver), butter as well as fatty fish will help support you properly. With organic, wild caught or grass fed and finished highly recommended.
We also recommend the targeted use of fasting to assist and also minimise negative side effects of chemo and maximise the anti-cancer effect. As part of our support we will monitor your insulin sensitivity, glucose and ketone levels (amongst a range of other markers)

Supplementation / Metabolic Protocol

There are literally hundreds of drugs with known anti-cancer effects being reviewed by the ReDO project (repurposing drugs for oncology), there are also hundreds of common medicinal herb, plants, mushrooms, vitamins and other supplements with known anti-cancer effects and beyond this thousands of potential plants under investigation.
As part of an overall strategic anti-cancer metabolic supplementation protocol a highly targeted selection must be made and tailored to each individual. However, there are a number of basics that can and should readily be put into place regardless of circumstance: Vitamin D supplementation to support the immune system, quality and pure EPA/DHA omega 3 and curcumin supplementation for their anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effect. These will not negatively impact any other treatments. Conversely, avoid common anti-oxidants like low dose vitamin C, NAC or Vitamin E and general purpose multi-vitamins. Ashwaganda can safely be added to help with stress management and has some anti-cancer properties too, while melatonin is safe and highly recommended to aid with sleep at night irrespective of your circumstance.

Now we have these three fundamentals in place, let us discuss further complementary integrative healing modalities available

PEMF Energy Healing / Grounding

Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field have a variety of applications, frequency options and field strengths. PEMF devices require significant field strengths to penetrate the body deeply, such devices are generally only found in specialised clinics. In-house we utilise programmable PEMF mats with an application penetration depth of a few centimeters. These mats especially help during radiation treatment close to or through the spine, such as with rectal cancer. These mats also help rebalance general energy flow and mimic the process of ‘grounding’. PEMF mats can help reduce pain and tension and so help relax the nervous system and aid with sleep.

HBOT / Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy ideally occurs in a clinical setting. Soft-shell chambers with oxygen concentrators are becoming popular due to their affordability for the home setting or some clinics – they are not as effective due to their pressure and oxygen saturation limits. Hard shell chambers with pure medical grade oxygen breathed in at higher pressures achieve a better and more consistent result.
Under sufficient pressure, oxygen is taken up in the blood beyond and independent of heamoglobin levels, which can be significantly reduced as result of chemo or radiation. A higher or well oxygenated body prevents cancer and for those who are battling cancer, it helps to prevent further metastisis. Cancer occurs as a result of localised hypoxia (low oxygen environment) which is the result of chronic inflammation caused by chemical, mental and physical stress.
HBOT also works well with IV-C to stack gentler non-toxic therapies to mimic the effect of chemotherapy – oxydative stress (ROS) to challenge/kill cancer cells while remaining within the limit healthy cells can quickly recover from.
Our service partner Hyperbaric O2 Gold Coast here in Worrongary (Australia) will work in with our broader protocol schedule to support you.

Sauna / Detox Therapy

Regular sauna sessions are highly recommended for anyone! Heat/cold therapy is very good for immune system support and body temperature regulation. Sauna are also one of the best ways to support detoxing and the artificial ‘fever’ internally will aid the body in fighting many pathogens. Sauna sessions are relatively inexpensive and accessible. We offer both Infrared and Finish sauna experiences.
Infrared sauna’s rely on induction and less on ambient temperature. FIR rays heat the body up from within the dermal (skin) layer, which is why these types of saunas are a little better for detoxing and for those who find it too hard to breathe in more traditional saunas. Infrared saunas operate between 40-60 degrees celcius and a session is usually between 30-60 minutes.
Finish saunas operate on a higher temperature between 70-90 degrees, with sessions lasting between 15 and 30 mins (longer ones often with a small break and cold rinse in between). Water can be poured over hot rocks to increase the ambient moisture level, which makes sweating less effective and thereby forcing a faster increase in core body temperature. Finish saunas are more effective at generating heat shock proteins.
A 30 minute sun-baking period on the deck prior to entering the Finish sauna may give the best of both in one efficient session.
A nice refreshing cold shower or dip in the pool for those who want – albeit those have been on chemo for a while may have trouble with neuropathy and therefore heat/cold sensitivities in hands and feet.
For more clinically effective deep-heat therapy we can recommend our service partners who offer local and/or whole body hyperthermia sessions, usually combined with high dose V-C therapy or low dose chemo for maximum effect.

Hyperthermia / Heat Therapy

While regular sauna sessions are highly recommended for anyone, a more effective heat therapy are local and whole body hyperthermia sessions. These are performed in a clinical setting and more effective at targeting specific core temperature increases over a longer period of time. Hyperthermia is usually combined with high dose IV-C therapy or low dose chemo for maximum effect. We can recommend our service partners for you to best integrate with your overall treatment protocol and budget.

High Dose IVC / IV Nutrition

High dose intravenuous vitamin-c (Ascorbic Acid) is a clinically administered oxidative stress therapy with well documented safety and use in anti-cancer therapies. Depending on your schedule, we have service partners nearby or can arrange a house-call or visit to our home-clinic. At low doses vitamin C acts as a radical scavenger and anti-oxidant, which is why low dose vitamin C should be avoided during ROS based therapies like chemo or HBOT. However, at high doses (preferably 1 -1.5 gram per kg for humans) and administered over 1.5-2 hours it generates a lot of hydrogen peroxide in the body and therefore a lot of oxidative stress. With reduced metabolic resistance and flexibility tumour cells therefore are more susceptible to damage to this therapy. It can be combined with chemo or HBOT etc for increased effect – please make sure to have proper clinical oversight and assessment of markers to ensure you remain within safe limits.

Hydrogen Therapy / Targeted Support

Inhalation of pure hydrogen is well documented as safe at a rate of 10%. Because the average human breathes about 6 liters of air per minute, we provide hydrogen inhalation at a flow rate of 600ml per minute. It takes about 20 minutes at this rate for the whole body to reach maximum saturation. Hydrogen is the smallest molecule known and extremely reactive, so it needs to be taken in the moment it is extracted. Hydrogen water is popular and can help a little – if you drink it all day every day – but in terms of deep therapeutic effect you must us it via inhalation therapy.
Hydrogen is a selective free radical scavenger, but leaves metabolic oxygen alone. Therefore it is highly protective and helps support the body during periods of radiation therapy, but also as part of recovery post high ROS phases. Recommended sessions in our home-clinic are for 2 or 3 hours and can be combined with PERL/RIFE and PEMF or SCALAR therapies.

PERL / RIFE Frequency Healing

The use of radiowaves and targeted frequencies in more modern day science is called tumour treating fields. It is a safe, non-invasive method of targeting rogue cells and pathogens with specific frequencies to target metabolic sensitivity and/or resonance – causing an ablative effect (destruction). With targeted frequencies being run for only a few minutes each, healthy cells are not affected. The PLASMA device we use offers a non-contact frequency emission via radio-waves, which is non-invasive and safe, but also operates at a short distance, allowing the recipient to go on with other things – such as sleep. In our home clinic we have three concurrent frequency generators, enabling a triple time saving and ensuring good coverage of frequency programs in each session.
Please note that the first two-three weeks focus on whole system health and general pathogens and parasites – it also enables the system to get used to the therapy. Besides cancer therapy programs, we can run programs for parasites, constipation, depression, skin issues, colds/flu, meditation or general immune support to name a few.
This therapy can be combined with PEMF, following a sauna or during IV-C. For cancer programs running 6 hours or more, overnight stay option may be available. Small group booking enquiries welcome.

Energy Healing

Energy healing modalities come in a variety of forms and preferences are highly individual – depending on the character of the client. This therapy modality is distinct from stress management, such as meditation, but meditation and relaxation is usually an integral part of this modality. Some forms of energy healing are: Sound Bowl healing, Reiki, Grounding and Biotuning. We can facilitate some of these in our home-clinic, remotely or recommend one of our specialist service partners.
